About the Author
Tony Johnston is the author of nearly 100 picture books and early readers, including The Iguana Brothers, illustrated by Mark Teague. Her first novel, Any Small Goodness: A Novel of the Barrio, was named an NCTE Notable Children's Book in the Language Arts, an IRA Notable Book for a Global Security, and a Judy Lopez Memorial Honor Book. This book is excellent as a counting aid for little ones. The turkeys are silly and colourful and my children had no trouble paying attention to the story. The counting theme is good and has a bit of a rhyme that makes it easy for kids to learn how to count backward from ten to zero. The repeated theme in the book of using "Gobble Gobble Wibble Wobble" was easy for the kids to pick up and soon they could read the book all by themselves. I would certainly recommend this book to parents/grandparents and preschool teachers.
I bought the paperback version of this from my son's daycare because Thanksgiving was coming up. I figured it would be a fun holiday book. I was dead wrong. My son (who was 4 months old when I bought it) has LOVED this book! He has loved it ever since I read it to him! If he sees it, he wants me to read it to him. When he's fussy on the changing table, I start quoting the book to him and he settles down and starts giggling! This book is still his favorite book (he's now 11 months old), and we've read it so much that I was THRILLED when I saw it was sold on Amazon as a board book! Now we don't have to try and keep his little hands off it--he can turn the pages himself, and he often likes to flip through the book by himself as well. If I could I'd give this book 10 stars!Aside from my experience with the book, the drawings are very cute and bright colored, the writing is also very clever and keeps any child's attention. There isn't really a "moral" to the story or anything like that. It's just one of those nonsense books that rhyme and kids love--combine that with the very cute pictures, and this book is a sure fire winner!!
My 18 month old daughter loves it. The book makes poor attempts at rhyming. I think it is better to not rhyme than to come up with a bunch of almost rhymes. Especially as a teacher, I think it’s a poor example for young minds that might be learning how to rhyme. That said, the illustrations are very bright and fun. The story is cute and funky. We count the turkeys left on each page and my daughter loves to say what each turkey is doing to cause them to fall.
Cute book but I was expecting more of a story. It's very young even for my 4 year old.
Countdown books are great for my 3 year old currently. This one starts from 10 which I like versus some of the songs or books which go down from 5. This was my daughter's favorite Thanksgiving book this year. It isn't particularly seasonal so it could be used year round. The turkeys are funny and illustrations are great. A fun book.
This rhyming story is fun to read to my grandchild. He enjoys the colorful illustrations and funny, rhythmic book. This is a board book which is perfect for a six-month old. However, I have read this book in paperback many times to second grade students who love the story !

This book is a cute book for kids learning to count. The drawings are fun and the "plot" is entertaining. It's good for beginning readers, but also a great book for parents or teachers to read to the youngsters. It's the kind of book that kids will ask to read (or have read to them) over and over. I purchased the book because my certified READ therapy dogs and I are working with a group of specially challenged children, so some of the group can read the words and the rest like the book read to them, while all learn about numbers. I'd recommend it, although I think there are some better books that also serve this purpose.
Bought this for my nephew as it was one of my kids favorite books when they were younger. Best part is that it is really fun to read, you'll quickly have it memorized.
